Nothing Left to Give
We shot this at the end of the day, with minimal light making it’s way through the window and open door. It was the end of a long day, and we capitalized on the exhaustion to create this vignette of a woman with nothing left to give.
Portra 800 pushed, I think, and scanned as b/w.
Fort Washington Park
TinTypes with Anton
A Sunday in Maryland with Anton Orlov, and a demo/workshop on the technique of tintypes. Anton was in the area, on his travels in the Photo Palace bus. A group of us met at Fort Washington Park in Maryland to learn something about tintype photography. In particular, I wanted a taste of what was involved, how comfortable i felt with the chemistry and whether the process was something I would realistically embrace. After some practice with a rolling marble, we each poured our first plate, which Anton exposed and we then developed, fixed and varnished. I do my own darkroom printing now, but in 2013 that was still in the future, so this was actually my first experience seeing the image appear in the tray. Magical is indeed the correct word for that moment
